Pros And Cons Of Bottled Water

There are quite a few pros and cons of bottled water that consumers should be aware of. Before deciding whether you want to go with bottled water or tap water, you should review both the pros and cons. First, let's look at the advantages of bottled water. One advantage is of course, easy hydration. Bottled water can be easily taken on the go and kept on your desk while you work. It comes in many different sizes for convenient portability and even sports type bottles with easy to open tops. You can purchase bottled water most anywhere, including all supermarkets and a great many gas stations and convenience stores.

Another benefit of bottled water is variety. There are so many different types of bottled water on the market that you'll never get bored with your water. For example, there is spring water, mineral water, sparkling water, oxygenated water, vitamin enriched water and more. Within each of these categories you will find the taste of the water may vary between brands. One brand of mineral water may taste different than another brand of mineral water. Flavored waters give you even more selection and are ideal for anyone who doesn't care for plain water.

Now let's look at the disadvantages of bottled water. One would definitely be price. Depending on what kind of water you choose, you can expect bottled water to be several times more expensive than tap water. Some brands may even be as much as ten times more costly. Another downside of some brands is that you are getting water that comes from a municipal water source -- in other words, bottled tap water at a higher price. If you're looking to save money, tap water would be the most economical way to go.

Some people think they are saving money by reusing plastic water bottles. The truth is that reusing water bottles can be hazardous to your health. Not only can they develop dangerous bacteria, the chemicals in the plastic can absorb into the water. Therefore, water bottles should not be saved and reused. In addition, municipal tap water is just as safe as bottled water as far as contaminants are concerned. Now that you are aware of the pros and cons of bottled water, you can make an educated decision regarding whether or not you want to drink tap water or bottled water.
