Production Of Bottled Water

The production of bottled water is a complex process that takes many steps. There is some basic knowledge that can ease the minds of consumers concerned about the quality or safety of bottled water. The FDA (Food and Drug Administration) regulates bottled water as a packaged food product, therefore it must adhere to the standards set by this administration. The FDA has very strict regulations regarding the production, packaging and labeling of bottled water. In addition, the IBWA (International Bottled Water Association) also works to set quality standards in the world of bottled water.
Bottled water comes from many different sources. For example, Evian mineral water comes directly from the French Alps. Perrier mineral water also comes from France. San Pellegrino bottled water comes from Italy. The majority of mineral water is imported to the United States, usually from Europe. Spring water is a type of water that can come from any location that has a naturally occurring underground spring. Glacier water must come from an actual glacier whether it is collected as runoff or melted at a production plant. There are different standards for each type of water.
There are a variety of different processes that bottled water must go through before being designated as safe to drink. There are measures such as protection of the water source, reverse osmosis, filtration, ozonation and even the application of ultraviolet light to kill bacteria and contaminants. Some bottled water may even have minerals or vitamins added to it. As a rule, mineral water cannot have minerals added to it. The minerals must meet a certain level and be naturally occurring. Also, because the FDA is so stringent when it comes to the production of bottled water you can rest assured the bottling facilities are upheld to strict standards of hygiene.
If you are interested in the production of bottled water, you can often learn more by researching different brands of water online. Many companies have an overview of where their water comes from and how it is produced for consumption on their website. Companies know that consumers want to know where their water is coming from and the measures that are taken to ensure safety and quality. Therefore most of them are more than happy to disclose details about the production of their water. It's always good to be an informed consumer, especially when the product is something that goes in your body.
